I developed an appreciation for the arts at an early age. My mother went to art school, and my father used a view camera to take family photos. He used the family bathroom as a dark room. When I learned to read I was introduced to books with beautiful illustrations. As I got older my appreciation for words, ideas and images remained. At the age of eleven I was given a Kodak box camera. When I had the opportunity I visited zoos and museums and I always had access to literature. I grew up viewing the world as a complex, and beautiful place with many opportunities for exploration. That feeling has stayed with me, even as I have grown older. The value of ideas, emotions, music, and images are paramount.
